I have type 2 diabetes. I've heard that the FAA Medical board will deny me a medical clearance to get a pilots certificate. Is this true?

I love this question, one thing you can do is also answer your own question as well.

Not necessarily, you can apply for a special issuance wavier from the FAA. I would check out FAR Part 14 CFR § 67.401. The FAA guide for medical examiners could also be a good place to start!
