What are some of the scariest airports in the world to make a landing or to take-off from? This is not really objective, but what are some airports you've faced that have challenged you?

Have you been to these airports? I have flown the Innsbruck instrument approach in a Level D sim a couple of times. It looks quite interesting.

In Arizona, there is Sedona (KSEZ). It sits on top of a playa with quite a bit of turbulence. About once a year, a pilot will misjudge the effects of a downwind and fly into the side of the mountain while descending to land on the runway. The runway ends are fairly close to the edge of the playa on both sides. I have known one pilot who lost his life and his passengers trying to land in Sedona. I prefer to remain high on the approach into the airport and use just a little bit more runway.

I disagree withe KSEZ answer. While it does present some challenge, those statistics are way off. Since 1996 there have only been 2 fatal accidents and one with serious injuries.

Most state department of transportation websites will list the most accident prone airports within a given state. I think its safe to assume that they are the more challenging of airports. I know a few pilots that go out of their way to fly into the top five or ten airports in a state with a trusted instructor to better their skills.
