This is something I don't get to do much, but I always feel a little bad asking for a courtesy car at an FBO. What are the unwritten rules for asking and returning a courtesy car from an FBO?

On those cross countries that I do, in my preflight preparation I will call the FBO of several airports that have fairly cheap gas and ask if they have a courtesy car. If they don't, I ask how far it is to walk to the nearest store / restaurant. I've found that airports within a 50NM radius will differ in gas price by about $.50 and most have a courtesy car but not all.

I remember once traveling 7hrs by C-172 and needed to stop in the middle for gas. I called and decided to land in a different airport than originally wanted to because they had the best gas price and courtesy car. It saved me around $20 which I then spent in town eating with my family.
