I'm reading the 747 manual which contains a storm lights switch. What are storm lights?

From this website,

The storm lights override normal pilot controls for the Instrument flood lights, aisle stand, Glareshield Flood, and forward and aft dome lights.

Awesome answer wbeard, the site you linked to is pretty cool. I spent about half an hour going through the other 747 panel images. Also I hope you don't mind but I fixed the url, there's a bug somewhere in the code and it messes up links sometimes.

So what's the idea of storm lights; if it goes dark in cloud then this will switch everything bright ?

I think it is a quick way to turn a lot of lights on at one time in case they are needed.

The purpose of storm lights is to get vision accustomed to brighter than normal light for a cockpit at night. That way, if there is a lightening flash close by, you won't be blinded.

This dates back to before WWII when we didn't know that flying in thunderstorms can be seriously detrimental to the structural integrity of the airplane--not to mention your continued employment as a pilot!
