My nephew (15) is interested in learning how to fly, what organizations or resources are out there for young pilots to help them with flight training?

Check into the Civil Air Patrol. its an auxiliary of the USAF with a cadet program for teens. Every time you move up in Rank you get an "orientation" ride (flight). You can usually find flight instructors there that will fly with your cadet for free. There is no military commitment or anything like that. They also have summer camps such as glider solo camps. It worked for me. Thats how I got my start......32 years later I'm a Boeing 777 Captain for a major Airline. You can also go to your local airport (small) and get an orientation ride which is basically a 30 min introductory flying lesson for between $50 and $99. Also contact or join AOPA they have all kinds of information.....Read all the flying magazines you can get your hands on. But most of all enjoy it! Flying is a grand adventure! If I had it to do all over again I would.

Excellent answer, especially regarding the CAP...I didn't really know exactly what they actually were. That's awesome how they helped get you started!

Check out www.eaa.org and look up the Young Eagles program. Free flights for kids 11 - 18, including a basic ground school of here's what's happening. Contact your local EAA chapter for the next Young Eagles flights.
